In just a short time, Mai Chao Chang has become an essential member of Boardman Clark.

Chang has worked as an attorney for two years in the firm’s Family Law, Employment Law and Immigration Law Practice Groups. In her immigration law practice, she helps her corporate clients hire employees from abroad.

This complex work includes assisting clients with the exhaustive process of preparing applications for O-1 “extraordinary ability” work visas, which are awarded only if foreign workers can prove they are within “the small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor.”

Chang is also passionate about working on humanitarian cases. Because of her background in family law, she is qualified to advocate for special immigrant juveniles (SIJs) who cannot be reunified with their parents because of abandonment or abuse. SIJs may only be granted legal permanent resident status after they receive an order from family or juvenile court
that includes specific findings.

“Mai Chao has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in the field of immigration law,” said Attorney Nikki Schram, chair of the immigration law practice group. “Her ability to navigate complex legal challenges with empathy has earned her the respect of her clients and peer attorneys alike.”

Chang’s work often involves finding creative solutions to complex problems. It’s a challenge that she embraces.

“In my family practice, my clients often rely on me to help them identify ways to resolve disputes while still preserving the relationship between them and the adversarial party,” she said. “I like finding creative solutions to complex issues while also humanizing both parties.

“In my immigration practice, I find great joy in advocating for a talented employee’s ability to remain in the United States in their occupation as they contribute to our communities and advancing science and technology research.”
