When Lori Dorn was working as a human resources officer at a bank, she was responsible for investigating and working to resolve employment law situations.

One of the bank’s senior executives was impressed with her performance and asked Dorn if she had ever considered a career as an employment law attorney.

A short time later, Dorn learned about an open administrator position at a law firm.

“I thought the position would be a great way to use my skills and prior experiences in human resources, finance and office management in the legal field while figuring out if I wanted to go to law school,” Dorn said.

The rest is history, and today Dorn is director of administration at Stafford Rosenbaum.

“I really enjoy the diversity of tasks and the people with whom I work. I particularly like working on the firm’s strategic initiatives and helping the firm achieve its goals,” Dorn said.

Dorn is creative and thoughtful in her approaches to new challenges and her delegation of tasks.

“She puts careful consideration into implementing new policies and procedures for technology, and she oversees the security of the firm’s data and systems to ensure that its clients are served and protected,” said Katherine Harrell, managing partner at Stafford Rosenbaum.

Asked what advice Dorn would give someone who is considering a career in the legal industry, she replied: “I highly recommend that people interested in pursuing a career in the legal industry join an organization aligned with their career goals. The best advice I received from my first managing partner was to join and become an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators and its Wisconsin Chapter. … Both ALA and WALA provide high quality education, great networking opportunities and a community where peers can innovate together.”

Outside of work, Dorn enjoys traveling abroad and exploring other countries’ history, culture, nature and cuisine.
