Wendy Schlies’ title may be paralegal, but that word falls far short of summing up everything she does at Godfrey & Kahn.

Schlies specializes in corporate and common and preferred stock transactions and the preparation and maintenance of corporate records. But she’s also a go-to resource in the office for a number of other tasks, such as troubleshooting technical or computer problems when the IT department isn’t on hand.

“Her cheerful demeanor and steadfast approach to projects often provides a sense of calm during what may be an intense time during a transaction,” said Susan Steberl, director of marketing at Godfrey & Kahn.

“Wendy always tends to see the bright side of things and is never negative — even when warranted, which may be one of the reasons clients enjoy working with her so much. Client service is paramount to Wendy.”

Schlies, who has more than 15 years’ worth of experience in the legal field, said she decided to pursue a career in the industry because she liked the idea of helping others.

“And there were so many options as to what type of law you wanted to specialize in,” she added.

No two days at the firm are the same, and Schlies takes great satisfaction in reaching resolutions for clients.

Giving back is also important to her. Each year, the Green Bay office of Godfrey & Kahn takes part in a volunteer activity at a homeless shelter, and Schlies is always the first to sign up.

“In the 10 years she has been with the firm she has never missed an event,” Steberl said.

Beyond volunteer work and her full-time job, Schlies devotes a lot of her time to her three sons — Jacob, Jeffery, both 13, and Ryan, 9.

“When I can get away, my husband and I enjoy going out to dinner and the theater,” she said.
