Alison Cefalu has a talent for turning an ordinary event into an extraordinary one.

Cefalu, events coordinator at Godfrey & Kahn, plans more than 75 events a year. They range from small meetings to networking opportunities and seminars with hundreds of people in attendance.

She has connections throughout the Milwaukee area, many of whom are in the hospitality industry.

“She has introduced our attorneys and clients to interesting, new venues and has made our events more meaningful and interactive for those who attend,” said Susan Steberl, director of marketing for Godfrey & Kahn.

Cefalu, whose background is mostly in the nonprofit sector, said collaboration is strongly encouraged at the firm. Most of the lawyers she works with take an active part in local organizations.

“I find the most joy when I have the opportunity to work with them on creating an event to highlight their organizations,” she said.

One of Cefalu’s best qualities is remaining calm under pressure, according to Steberl. About a year ago, for instance, a caterer hired by the firm booked an incorrect date and did not show up for a reception that was scheduled for about 100 people. The organizers didn’t recognize the mistake until about 45 minutes before the reception was supposed to begin.

“Everything was handled with grace behind the scenes and our event began on time, with guests not knowing there was even the slightest hiccup in service,” Steberl said.

Cefalu spends much of her free time volunteering at the Salvation Army through their emerging-leaders organization, Echelon.

“It has been eye-opening seeing the incredible impact the Salvation Army has on the lives of our neighbors in their time of need,” she said.
