Law Forward, Inc. is a Wisconsin-based public interest law firm dedicated to protecting and strengthening democracy in the state.
Founded five years ago in Madison with a single staff attorney and a mission to fight back against efforts to undermine free and fair elections, the firm has grown to nine attorneys under the leadership of President and General Counsel Jeff Mandell.
Law Forward works to ensure fair, transparent and truly representative government where every vote counts, and every voice is heard.
Among its proudest accomplishments, the firm’s Clarke v. WEC case struck down what it describes as the country’s most extreme and durable partisan gerrymander in 2023, paving the way for Wisconsin’s first fair-map elections in over a decade. The firm also overturned 2011 Wisconsin Act 10 in circuit court, reviving collective bargaining rights for teachers, librarians, park rangers and others, with appeals ongoing.
In 2026, Law Forward is engaged in an intense effort to protect voting rights, including intervening alongside the ACLU in a lawsuit concerning the Wisconsin Elections Commission and private voter information protected under state law.
