As chair of DeWitt’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, Joseph Leone is trusted counsel to clients worldwide seeking to secure, protect and enforce their intellectual property rights.

Leone practices from the firm’s Madison office, focusing on patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. with experience both in prosecuting rights and in asserting or defending them in state and federal courts. His clients range from multinational corporations and leading research universities to start-ups and individual inventors, having drafted patent applications for Marquette University and King’s College London. His client base spans industries like pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing and consumer products.

Leone is also sought after for opinion work, particularly freedom-to-operate opinions for U.S. manufacturers and international companies importing goods into the United States. In addition, he frequently represents clients before the Trademark Trial & Appeal Board and serves as an expert witness in matters involving Patent & Trademark Office practices.
