James Peterson brings a global perspective and collaborative leadership style to his mergers and acquisitions practice.
Peterson is based at Foley & Lardner‘s Milwaukee office, where he regularly works with European, particularly Scandinavian, clients on U.S. transactions such as acquisitions, joint ventures and general corporate matters.
He tailors his approach to meet the cultural, procedural and logistical differences in these global transactions. Peterson does so by managing time zone gaps, coordinating with international counsel and scheduling transactions according to his client’s working calendar.
In his leadership role as chair of the firm’s Corporate Department, Peterson emphasizes a relationship-driven approach to not only his practice but to his mentorship.
“My approach to leadership starts with building relationships with as many colleagues as possible. In this way, I can leverage the talents and insights of this truly impressive group of attorneys,” he said. “My approach as a formal or informal mentor is quite similar in that I try to build a relationship and do a lot more listening than talking. If I have any input, I want my communication to be clear and actionable.”
Peterson is a member of the firm’s Private Equity & Venture Capital, Transactional & Securities and International Practices.
