MANITOWOC – Prosecutors in Jesse Vang’s felony court case connected to the February 2024 death of 3-year-old Elijah Vue argue a change in venue requested by Vang’s attorneys is not necessary.
Court documents from District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre state the following: This court can ensure a fair an impartial jury through its voir dire before resorting to the drastic remedy of ordering a change of venue and sequestration of jurors.
“Voir dire” is a preliminary legal examination used by judges or attorneys to determine prospective jurors’ suitability or competence to serve on a jury.
Vang’s attorney, Jeffrey Jensen Sr., has asked that the case be heard in another county rather than in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Judge Anthony Lambrecht is scheduled to hear arguments on the request May 18.
Vang is suspected of causing Vue’s death in February 2024 and hiding the child’s body.
Vang is charged with felony physical abuse of a child through repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse and chronic neglect of a child, plus misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer.
A trial has not been set in this case yet and Vang remains held in Manitowoc County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
