Arguing comes naturally to Russell Jones.

“My poor parents had to deal with it all the time,” he quipped. “Combine that with my defiant streak and natural stubbornness and you have the bones of a good defense attorney,” Jones said.

The Marquette University Law School graduate started his own firm, Jones Law Firm, in 2008. He credits an experience he had early in his adulthood for steering him toward a career in law.

“I was an entrepreneur and became involved in a legal situation in which I had to fight against the weight of the system,” Jones said. “It nearly left my life in ruins. That experience sparked a desire to get proactive, to become part of the solution for people who need representation during what is usually the worst time of their life,” Jones said.

Jones focuses his practice on high-stakes criminal cases with an emphasis on homicide defense work. He has tried and won cases ranging from first-degree intentional homicide to disorderly conduct.

“He has successfully argued to protect constitutional rights and has engineered favorable results for clients in all aspects of litigation,” said Laura Jones, a paralegal with Jones Law Firm. “In short, he is the lawyer you want when you need to fight for your freedom, your family or your rights.”

Jones said that one of the biggest challenges in his work is choosing how to divide up his time with clients.

“Every client understandably wants my time and I am constantly triaging my workload to make sure the most pressing matters are being given the attention they deserve,” Jones said. “It’s a perpetual struggle.”

“Each client I deal with is going through an extremely stressful situation to say the least, and I’m very serious about my duty to give them the best possible defense. Often there’s a lot of pain and misery involved in these cases, so that means my efforts need to be guided by strategy and a great deal of empathy. It’s not easy to strike that balance,” Jones added.
