After just two years into his tenure with Boardman Clark, Austin Doan has proven to be an essential member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, leading multiple cases from auto and premises liability to civil rights and business disputes.

“Austin has repeatedly shown himself to be a highly skilled litigator, with success in motion practice, at trial and most recently before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals,” said Andrew Hebl, chair of Boardman Clark’s Litigation Practice Group. “Austin is among the most promising litigators at Boardman Clark.”

Hebl said Doan jumps into cases head-on and takes the reins on whatever tasks need to be addressed, whether it is drafting pleadings, taking or defending depositions, appearing in court, preparing for and participating in mediations, or formulating litigation plans to keep clients’ cases moving toward a successful resolution.

“I enjoy litigation for the ability to compete, but in a completely sportsmanlike way,” Doan said. “I love the ability to learn something new every day.”

Soon after joining Boardman Clark, Doan took the lead in a high-profile case involving a lawsuit on the constitutionality of a new city of Madison ordinance. He interviewed numerous alderpeople, officials and experts, including a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, executed all of the research and played an integral role in depositions and the eventual settlement.

“It is always interesting to learn about how municipalities and local governments work and the overall constitutional structure that gives local governments the ability to operate,” said Doan, who was one of 24 new attorneys statewide selected to attend the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Leadership Development Summit. “We all take for granted how much say local governments have in our day-to-day lives,” he noted.

Although he has a busy caseload, Doan mentors summer associates, helping them prepare for their future legal careers.
