Summary of today’s news

We are always looking for the latest news on various topics. Some people use RSS feeds, while others may rely on Twitter updates. Everyone approaches current awareness differently. One option may be Interceder. Interceder is a mashup that collects the latest news from various sources, Twitter, and YouTube.

As a test, I searched “Lance Armstrong.” There were dozens of stories with the most recent being only a few minutes old. Interceder provides a brief summary of the topic and links to the latest news stories and videos. What is really cool, is that it tells the user how recent the information. If you find a headline of interest, just place your cursor over it for a small snippet from the story or tweet.

Since it is gathering information from news sources, it should be used for subjects that have media presence. Users should keep search terms simple (like “BP oil spill”) or search by names. Complex searches do not seem to produce relevant results. (Try searching “Wall Street” AND “Dow Jones”). Another concern is that it lacks an “about” link, so there are no details about how it works or gathers data.

As a test for older stories, I did try searching “Kelo AND eminent domain” and obtained several videos discussing the story of Susette Kelo.

Try it yourself. I will probably stick with Bing or Google News, but it may be worth an occasional stop.
