National Center for State Courts

Listen to this article

The National Center for State Courts is another one of those websites where it would be impossible to summarize all their features in just one post. The amount of data available on this site is wonderful. One item I seem to access each year is the “Future Trends in State Courts” report. It always contains several articles of interest to me or my attorneys. Categories for the 2007 edition include Technology, Families and Problem-Solving Courts, and Promising Practices, The articles are focused towards court personnel, however, can be extremely helpful to anyone interested in a particular area.

One great article in this edition is “Trends in Library Collaboration to Provide Access to Legal Information.” The author, Barb Fritschel, is the librarian at the Eastern District of Wisconsin and a member of the Law Librarian Association of Wisconsin.

With increasing discussion on electronic filing in Wisconsin State Courts, another article worth noting is the “E-filing Expansion in State, Local, and Federal Courts.”

If you have never looked to the National Center for State Courts for statistics and issues that affect State Courts, I recommend it. I will be highlighting some of the other features found at the site in future posts.
