The Supreme Court reviewed the report of referee David A. Piehler recommending that thecourt suspend Attorney Gary King's license to practice law in Wisconsin for one year and require him to pay the full costs of this disciplinary proceeding, which are $5,927.83 as of September 20, 2023.

Disciplinary Proceedings
This is a reciprocal discipline matter. On June 12, 2023, the Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR) filed a complaint and motion pursuant to Supreme Court Rule (SCR) 22.22, requesting this court suspend Attorney Felipe N. Gomez's license to practice law in Wisconsin for a period of three years, as discipline reciprocal to that imposed by the Supreme Court of Illinois.

On August 2, 2023, petitioners Rebecca Clarke, et al., 19 Wisconsin voters, filed a petition for leave to commence an original action under Wis. Stat. § (Rule) 809.70, together with a supporting memorandum, an appendix, and a motion for a scheduling order.

Parental Rights
The Supreme Court upheld the circuit court's decision to reject Father's request to withdraw his plea of no contest regarding one of the grounds stated in the State's petition to terminate Father's parental rights to his daughter.
Adequacy of Award
The supreme court overturned the court of appeals' decision, which had reversed the circuit court's judgment affirming the State Claims Board's decision to grant the Appellant $25,000 in compensation after determining that the Appellant was innocent of the crime he was imprisoned for.
Tax- Transportation Utility Fee
The Supreme Court upheld the circuit court's ruling that the Town of Buchanan's transportation utility fee (TUF) is considered a property tax and is subject to the Town's levy limit.
