A jury verdict has been reached in Joy Popke vs. Jarod Bedor (2020CV000206), a chiropractic malpractice case in Waupaca County.
The 55-year-old plaintiff in the case, represented by Franz Mauer of Fox Valley Legal in Appleton, claimed that the chiropractor caused a compression fracture to L4-L5 of her spine during an adjustment that resulted in multiple surgeries.
The defense was able to show that chiropractors do not cause compression fractures because that type of fracture is caused by an axial or flexion force, which is not the direction of force of a chiropractic adjustment. The defense, led by Linda Vogt Meagher and Stephen Trigg of Gass Turek, also argued the plaintiff had compression fractures before and after she saw the defendant chiropractor all due to her severe osteoporosis.
