UPDATED: Ozaukee Sheriff seeks public help with I-43 Mequon shooting investigation

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public. If you witnessed a road rage incident Saturday on I-43 in Ozaukee County involving shots being fired, please contact the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office at 262-284-7172.

On Saturday, December 16, 2023 at or around 5 p.m., the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting on Interstate 43 Southbound, South of County Highway C, Pioneer Road in the City of Mequon.

Authorities say initial reports indicate that the victim was traveling southbound in the right lane of I–43 when a white sedan passed the victim in the left lane and fired an unknown number of shots into the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect vehicle involved in the I-43 shooting incident was described by the victim as a white KIA 4 door, unknown model, unknown license plate.

Despite the victim’s vehicle being struck several times, no injuries were reported, Sheriff’s officials said, noting, I-43 Southbound lanes were closed between Pioneer Road and Highland Road.

Southbound I-43 lanes were re-opened just before 8:30 p.m. as authorities continued to investigate the incident.

“The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Mequon Police Department, Grafton Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department K 9 Unit , Southern Ozaukee Fire Department and Gierach’s Service for their assistance during this investigation. The incident remains under investigation and no further in formation is available at this time,” officials added.
