Pietruczak strives to be true partner to business clients

When Maciej Pietruczak was attending classes at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, his initial inclination was to go into business.

But he eventually discovered the work was not to his liking. His next choice was to try his hand at law. This, he found, was a much better fit.

Now rather than manage employees or oversee operations at a business, Pietruczak – known to his colleagues as Matt – finds himself advising company owners as a senior associate in Quarles & Brady’s Business Law Practice Group. Pietruczak said he considers himself very fortunate in his choice of a career that he has come to love.

“Whether it’s an investment, or an M&A or day-to-day corporate work, I really enjoy helping clients navigate the legal aspects of these deals,” he said.

A native of the suburbs of Paris, France, Pietruczak moved to Oshkosh when his father was transferred there by his employer. He obtained his law degree from UW-Madison in 2013 and began working in Quarles’ Milwaukee office in 2015.

Will Schultz, national chair of Quarles’ Business Law Group, said Pietruczak proved a quick study in his early years at the firm.

“Even as a more junior associate, he was much more comfortable sharing an opinion or questioning something at a time when his peers might have been nervously deferential,” Schultz said.

Pietruczak said he strives to do more for clients than simply provide legal advice.

“I find that you’re also a bit of a business adviser, especially if you’re developing a relationship with clients and becoming a long-term partner and champion for the client,” he said.
