Hickey, Ohiku accept nominations in race for State Bar president-elect

The attorneys Margaret Wrenn Hickey and Odalo J. Ohiku have accepted nominations to run for the 2021 State Bar of Wisconsin president-elect.

The State Bar announced their candidacies and the nominees for additional State Bar officers on Friday.

Hickey is a shareholder of Becker, Hickey & Poster in Milwaukee. She practices in the areas of divorce, family law and elder law, including trusts for the disabled, Title 19 and guardianship.

Ohiku is a deputy-city attorney in the Milwaukee Office of the City Attorney. He practiced criminal-defense and family law at the Law Office of Odalo J. Ohiku in Milwaukee for 17 years.

The election will be held in April 2021. The president-elect will serve a one-year term before assuming the role of president on July 1, 2022.

Anu Chudasama, a litigator at Bassford Remele of Minneapolis, and Elizabeth Reeths, a litigator at Klinner Kramer Shull of Wausau, are the nominees for treasurer. Chudasama specializes in medical malpractice, legal malpractice, personal injury and general liability. Reeths’ practice areas are insurance-defense litigation, insurance-coverage disputes, municipal litigation and plaintiff-personal injury.

The candidates for Judicial Council representative are Samuel C. Hall Jr., managing partner of Crivello Carlson in Milwaukee, and Margo S. Kirchner at Wisconsin Justice Institute Inc. in Milwaukee. Hall’s practice areas include appellate practice, civil-rights litigation, commercial and corporate litigation, and municipal law. Kirchner is the WJI’s development director and general counsel.

All candidates are nominated by the State Bar Nominating Committee. Kathleen Brost, the current State Bar president, appointed committee members. Cheryl Daniels, the State Bar’s current president-elect, will succeed Brost on July 1, 2021.
