Application open for $10,000 diversity law student scholarship

The application for the DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar’s 15th annual $10,000 Law Student Diversity Scholarship Competition — is open.

The organization plans to award two $10,000 scholarships to students entering their second or third year of law school in the 2020-21 academic year.

To be eligible, scholarship candidates must be Black, Hispanic, Native American, LGBT, multi-racial or female law students. DRI said it would also consider law students who come from backgrounds that would contribute “to the cause of diversity, regardless of race or gender.”

Scholarships will be awarded according to candidates’ demonstrated academic excellence, service to the profession, service to the community and service to the cause of diversity.

Candidates must be full-time students or evening students who have completed one-third or more of the total credit hours required for a degree at their law school.

The application is available online, and students must submit their completed materials by Aug. 31. Winners will be notified in advance and announced in October.

DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar said its goal is to provide financial assistance to two worthy law students to promote the organization’s commitment to diversity. The program has awarded $300,000 in scholarships since its beginning.

DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar is an international organization of nearly 18,000 defense attorneys, commercial litigation attorneys, corporations and corporate counsel defending the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation.
