Gov. Scott Walker on Tuesday announced that he had appointed a long-time prosecutor from Racine County to take the place of a retiring judge in Racine County.

Deputy District Attorney Maureen Martinez will serve out the rest of Judge Emily Mueller’s term. The seat will then be up for election in April 2019.

Martinez, who earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1996, has spent more than two decades working for the Racine County District Attorney’s Office. She specializes in felony cases involving the sexual assault of children and adults, homicides, child abuse and neglect.
