Gov. Scott Walker has tapped the Watertown city attorney to fill a vacancy on the Jefferson County Circuit Court bench.

Walker announced on Thursday that he had appointed William Gruber to replaces Judge Jennifer Weston, who is retiring.

Gruber, who earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2004, has been the Watertown city attorney for more than five years. Before that, he was assistant corporation counsel for Dodge County. Gruber also worked in private practice, gaining experience in civil, contract, property and family law.
