A Madison man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing firearms as a felon.

James Kruger, 38, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge William Conley, according to a release. He pleaded guilty in July, admitting that he possessed a .22 rifle, a long rifle, a 9 millimeter semiautomatic handgun and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

His sentence was enhanced, according to the release, because the guns were stolen and used to rob a relative, threaten a woman in rural Grant County, kidnap that woman’s husband and steal a truck. He also was alleged to have stolen a second vehicle and led officers on a high-speed chase through Grant, Iowa and Dane counties, driving more than 100 mph and against traffic on Highway 18/151.
