Following Judge Bonnie Gordon’s resignation Friday, Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney David Feiss has announced he will run for judge in Branch 46.

Feiss will immediately begin collecting signatures in order to appear on the April 2015 ballot, according to a news release.

Since March 1993, Feiss has led the Public Integrity Unit of the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The unit is responsible for investigating and prosecuting public corruption cases, large-scale economic crimes, and organized criminal activity. Feiss supervises the attorneys in the office as well as unit-assigned law enforcement officers, and takes the lead on white-collar crime prosecutions, according to the release.

Feiss also handled cases involving child support, traffic offenses, misdemeanors, and felony crimes, including cases of drugs, armed robberies and homicides and has served as co-chair of the Child Care Anti-Fraud Task Force since October 2009.

In 2010 and 2011, Feiss served as a citizen member of the Wisconsin Legislative Council Special Committee on Public Assistance Program Integrity. The work of this committee resulted in the complete revamping of the state’s approach to investigating and prosecuting fraud against public assistance programs, according to the release.

Feiss also serves as president of the Association of State Prosecutors, a role he has held since 2010. The organization represents prosecuting attorneys across the state of Wisconsin.

He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College. He lives in Wauwatosa with his wife, Patricia Hanz, an attorney at Briggs & Stratton. They have two grown daughters.
