SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — Former Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving.
Ryan originally pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated. But, he changed his mind after he was told his license would be revoked for refusing a blood test at the scene of his arrest in Kiel.
Ryan told a municipal judge Tuesday he didn’t refuse an alcohol breath test, he simply wanted to get off the side of the road. Authorities say Ryan was taken to a Manitowoc hospital for a blood draw following his March 3 arrest and was found to have an alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.
The Sheboygan Press says the former mayor is scheduled for a pretrial hearing May 14 in Kiel.
