Brian Purtell, a partner at DeWitt Ross & Stevens SC’s Madison office, was appointed by the Wisconsin Joint Legislative Council to serve on the Special Committee on Legal Interventions for Persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.

The committee will review and develop legislation to clarify the statutes regarding guardianship, protective placement, involuntary commitment and involuntary treatment of vulnerable adults with a dementia diagnosis who may have a co-occurring psychiatric diagnosis.

Daniel Geraghty joined Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek SC’s Milwaukee corporate practice group as leader of the firm’s Federal Tax Controversy & Litigation Team. Geraghty focuses his practice on complex federal, international and state tax issues.

He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Matthew Fisher and Scott Brunner joined Meissner, Tierney Fisher & Nichols SC, Milwaukee.
Fisher, who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2009, joined the firm’s business litigation practice.

Brunner, who graduated from Marquette University in 2012, joined the firm’s corporate and business law practice.

• von Briesen & Roper, SC, Milwaukee, promoted Shay Agsten to shareholder of the firm and hired William Jackson for the Health Care Practice Group.

Agsten is in the Banking, Bankruptcy, Business Restructuring & Real Estate Practice Group. She earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota in 2005.

During law school, Jackson was a member of the Journal of Health Law & Policy and earned a certificate in health law and a master’s in health administration. He earned his law degree in 2009 from Saint Louis University.

• Quarles & Brady LLP achieved Gold Standard Re-Certification by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.

The certification emphasizes the leadership roles achieved by women partners. WILEF will honor qualifying firms at a luncheon Sept. 12 in New York City.
