Gov. Scott Walker has appointed Michael Nieskes to serve as judge for the Circuit Court of Racine County.
Nieskes, who has 30 years of experience in law, served as a prosecutor in several Illinois counties before becoming the Deputy District Attorney of Racine County. In 2004, he became the Racine County District Attorney.
Nieskes earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a doctorate from the DePaul University School of Law. Nieskes was also involved in the initiation of a number of programs in the Racine justice system, including a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court, a mental health diversion track for misdemeanor offenders and a substance abuse treatment programming in jail, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
