Noneconomic Damages – Medical Malpractice
Our review considers whether the legislatively-enacted cap of $750,000 (the cap) on noneconomic damages for victims of medical malpractice that is set out in Wis. Stat. § 893.55 (2015-16) is unconstitutional facially or as applied, based on equal protection and due process grounds.
Unemployment Compensation Benefits
Valerie Beres was denied unemployment compensation benefits on the ground that she was terminated for engaging in "misconduct" as an employee, namely absenteeism, as defined by Wis. Stat. § 108.04(5)(e) (2015-16).
Employment Discrimination
Charles E. Carlson says Wisconsin Bell, Inc. intentionally discriminated against him when it terminated his employment because of his disability.
Statutory Interpretation
The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (the "Department") imposed a tax on the petitioners pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 77.52(2)(a)11. (2007-08) for the "processing" of river sediments into waste sludge, reusable sand, and water.

Langlois ("Langlois") for homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, contrary to Wis. Stat. § 940.08(1) (2015-16), and its denial of Langlois' postconviction motions.

The petitioner, Adams Outdoor Advertising Limited Partnership, seeks review of an unpublished per curiam decision of the court of appeals affirming the circuit court's grant of summary judgment dismissing Adams' takings claim against the City of Madison.
Attorney Disciplinary Proceeding
We review the report of Referee John Nicholas Schweitzer recommending that Attorney Sarah Clemment be declared in default, concluding that Attorney Clemment engaged in professional misconduct, and recommending that she be publicly reprimanded.
Judicial Misconduct – Commissioner Misconduct
We review, pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 757.91 (2015-16), a Judicial Conduct Panel's findings of fact, conclusions of law, and recommendation for discipline for the Honorable Frank M. Calvert, a court commissioner for the Oconto County Circuit Court.
Statutory Interpretation
Upon conviction of a felony, our statutes provide for imposition of a $250 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) analysis surcharge on the defendant.
Ineffective Assistance of Counsel
A jury convicted Anthony R. Pico of sexually assaulting a young girl. Mr. Pico believes there is a reasonable probability that, absent his trial counsel's alleged constitutional ineffectiveness, this conviction would not have occurred.
