IN BRIEF
A Milwaukee County jury last week convicted a defense lawyer accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2022.
The jury on May 8 found Robert L. Taylor, 79, guilty of several felonies, including three counts of second-degree sexual assault with a domestic violence modifier and two counts of felony bail jumping, online court records show.
He will be sentenced July 24 by Circuit Court Judge Laura Crivello.
Taylor initially was charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault with a domestic violence modifier, but more charges were added at different stages of the case, court records show.
A woman called 911 on Dec. 11, 2022, asking to be taken to the hospital for a migraine, according to a criminal complaint.
A male was heard on the phone saying, “Are you sure?” before identifying himself as “Attorney Robert Taylor,” the complaint says.
Taylor told the 911 operator the woman had problems with migraines and mild stroke symptoms but added, “she’s fine.”
The man then told the operator that the caller didn’t want to go to the hospital after all, but she replied “yes” the operator asked her if she wanted medical help.
Once at the hospital, the woman disclosed she had been sexually abused by Taylor, and medical staff found she had injuries consistent with an assault, the complaint says.
She told a police officer she and Taylor had gone to visit his property out of state and on the way back to Wisconsin he sexually assaulted her at a hotel. When they returned to Taylor’s apartment in Milwaukee, the woman said, he threatened to kill her and sexually assaulted her again.
