IN BRIEF

Judicare Legal Aid and Legal Action of Wisconsin merged into one organization – Legal Action of Wisconsin.

The merger took place Jan. 1.

The organizations said that bringing their groups together allow them to combine their strengths, reduce barriers to accessing legal help and create more consistent, stable support for the people who need them the most.

“This merger allows us to better meet the needs of clients, no matter where in Wisconsin they live,” said Deedee Peterson, Legal Action’s chief executive officer. “Together, we are building a stronger, more coordinated equal justice safety net.”

Legal Action of Wisconsin and Judicare Legal Aid have collaborated for many years on many initiatives and impact litigation and advocacy. The merger formalizes and builds upon that collaboration.

Following the merger, Legal Action of Wisconsin will have offices in Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Racine and Wausau. From there, services are provided across Wisconsin, including its Tribal Nations.

No changes to staff or programs are expected. Community members can apply online at www.legalaction.org or by calling 855-947-2529.
