At the appellate level, Tamar Kelber zeros in on what matters most — stripping away noise and narrowing arguments to their essentials.
Kelber of Milwaukee’s Gass Turek brings over 30 years of experience to clients seeking her counsel, especially those in the pharmaceutical, financial services and other highly regulated industries.
She believes good appellate work starts long before a case ever reaches the higher courts by preserving the right issues at trial and building a record that supports a focused, strategic appeal. In highly technical cases, Kelber works to make complex material understandable.
“It’s important to provide good road mapping of the issues and how they fit together,” she said. “And keep in mind that the court does not just need to understand the issues, but also to be able to convey them clearly in an opinion. It’s invaluable to get feedback from colleagues who are not familiar with the technology or the regulatory framework. They are great at identifying concepts that need further definition or explanation.”
Kelber spent 20 years with Sidley Austin in Chicago, including 13 as a partner. She was a managing member of Gass Turek from 2018 to 2019, and additionally, the former chair of the American Bar Association’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Biotech Product Liability Subcommittee.
