House Speaker Mike Johnson is demanding President Joe Biden resign “immediately” given Sunday’s announcement that he will not seek reelection.

“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough,” Johnson said in a Sunday social media post.

Johnson sent a reminder to foreign and domestic enemies of the U.S. that it is prepared to defend the nation.

“Regardless of the chaos in the current White House, our adversaries around the globe should be reminded that the American people are fully prepared and committed to defend our interests both at home and abroad,” Johnson added in Sunday’s social media post.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates defended Biden in a statement to CNN.

“President Biden inherited an economy in freefall, a skyrocketing violent crime rate, and alliances in tatters from his predecessor. He turned that around to deliver the strongest economic growth in the world and the lowest violent crime rate in nearly 50 years, while making NATO bigger than ever. He looks forward to finishing his term and delivering more historic results for the American people.”
