The ever-evolving law surrounding employers convinced Maggie Cook to transition her commercial litigation practice into one focused on employment litigation.

“I enjoy the variety employment law brings to my practice … and the factual scenarios presented by my clients are ever changing,” said Cook, a shareholder on Godfrey & Kahn’s litigation team and a member of its Labor & Employment, Non-Competition and Trade Secret and Financial Services Litigation practice group.

In her employment litigation practice, she represents employers in wage-and-hour class and collective actions, defends individual discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims. She also litigates restrictive covenant agreements, trade secret theft, wage claims and termination disputes.

“I enjoy the human interest element in employment litigation because the cases involved real people with real emotions,” Cook said.

It can be hard at times for employers to look past those emotions when making a decision, she said.

At Godfrey & Kahn, Cook is the go-to attorney on Fair Labor Standards Act claims, which allow employees to recover back wages when there’s minimum wage and overtime violations.
