When James Macy’s office phone rings, he never knows what problem is on the other side.
“But I don’t mind. I enjoy the variety that happens daily. I never know what I will see and hear,” said Macy, chair of von Briesen & Roper’s School Law Section.
Macy represents employers in all aspects of employment law from labor negotiations and discrimination defense to wrongful discharge and non-competition issues. He also drafts employment agreements and negotiates employment severances.
“It’s really a little bit of everything,” he said.
Macy became interested in employment law while clerking at a firm that had it as a specialty.
“I enjoyed the challenges, problems and opportunities to solve sometimes difficult problems,” he said.
Macy works with public and private sector employers of all sizes, including those with union and non-union workforces..
Keeping up with rule changes is a challenge when practicing employment law, said Macy, adding he works with clients to make sure they are up-to-date and compliant.
