Holly E. Courtney was searching for a practice area that would provide her with a mix of consulting clients and litigation. Employment law turned out to be the ideal choice.

“It’s a really good balance of what I enjoy doing,” said Courtney, an attorney with Michael Best. “I help companies solve different problems from compliance like making sure handbooks are up to date to emergency issues that need to be dealt with right away.”

She assists clients on a variety of topics including discrimination, drug and alcohol testing, employee leave, wage and hour law, the National Labor Relations Act, workers’ compensation and restrictive covenants. Courtney also advises employers on developing and maintaining compliant employee policies.

If cases require litigation, Courtney uses her skills to craft persuasive defenses in state and federal court as well as administrative agencies.

“I enjoy it when I can get something taken care of for my client and we are able to solve an issue,” Courtney said. “I want to make sure my clients are up to date on the latest changes and how that affects their operations and to make sure they are compliant,” Courtney said.
