Not all attorneys spend day and night at their desks or in a courtroom.

When Catarina Colón isn’t practicing labor and employment law, you might find her on a stage.

Colón, who has been with Husch Blackwell for nearly five years, performed as a vocalist with the Husch Blackwell band at the firm’s retreat last fall, and seeks any opportunity to perform in the community, whether it be for weddings, ceremonies, memorial services or just karaoke.

Music aside, Colón said she greatly values family. Referring to her uncle, Judge Pedro Colón, the younger Colón noted, “My uncle has opened me up to many spaces in the legal community that I would otherwise not be a part of,” Colón said.

According to Colón, over the years her legal practice has developed more into more counseling and transactional work as opposed to litigation – an intentional transition.

“With counseling, you get to help mitigate risk and teach best practices,” Colón said.

According to Colón, her work is extremely fulfilling.

“What I find most fulfilling is helping employers create more inclusive workplaces by way of training and counseling,” Colón said.
