The Republican Party of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Young Republicans (YR) successfully hosted the grand opening of the Southeast Regional Headquarters in Waukesha on Saturday, according to WisGOP officials.

The room was filled laughter and applause as conservative Wisconsinites cheered on U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde, shouting “Hovde! Hovde!” in a room filled with supporters.

On Saturday, Hovde discussed several issues, including President Joe Biden’s “failed open border policy” in which the senate candidate described as adding to the nation’s Fentanyl crisis.

Several other elected officials previously noted the open border has also opened the United States to terrorists crossing illegally, as well as worsening of the nation’s human trafficking crisis.

According to the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, the number of individuals apprehended illegally crossing the southwest border and found to be on the terrorist watchlist has increased 2,500% from fiscal years 2017-2020 to fiscal year 2023.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson previously said that Biden’s open border policy presents “a clear and present danger to the United States.”

On Saturday, Hovde said, “I think Americans are waking up … enough is enough … we can’t lose this wonderful country … the stakes are too high.”

Hovde suggested as a part of his campaign strategy to do what former President Ronald Regan did — talk to moderates and “light Democrats.”

“We have to ask them those questions: Do you (Democrats) really agree with your party (Democrats) opening our border?” Hovde asked.

Aside from open border concerns, Hovde addressed several other issues on the ballot in November, including the national debt that Democrats have “racked up,” according to WisGOP.

According to PolitiFact, “Biden left out that the debt under his watch is on pace to exceed Trump’s one-term debt accumulation by the end of his current term, Jan. 20, 2025. During his first three years, Biden already accumulated $6.32 trillion in debt.”

“Do you like all of this inflation?” Hovde asked the room.

Marissa Benson, State Coalitions director for the RPW, posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday, “Amazing turn out today for the @WisGOP @WIYRs  SE Regional HQ Grand Opening in Waukesha! …”

And then there was cake.

Also on Saturday, constituents met new volunteers, coalition friends and knocked on doors, according to the WisGOP.

WisGOP Chairman Brian Schimming was in attendance, saying, “Everything this year goes through Wisconsin.”

As previously reported by the Wisconsin Law Journal, Wisconsin will play a key role in deciding the outcome of the 2024 presidential election in November.

Also as previously reported by the Wisconsin Law Journal, the chairman of Wisconsin YRs Kyle Schroeder, State Sen. Julian Bradley, State Rep. and Vice Chair of the YRs National Federation Nik Rettinger, and Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow were also in attendance.

The Wisconsin Law Journal reached out to WisDems and Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s campaign on Saturday requesting comments. The WisDems declined to comment.

No response was received from Sen. Baldwin’s campaign prior to publication.
