Eric Toney announces re-election bid for Fond du Lac County District Attorney

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced this week he will run once again for District Attorney in Fond du Lac County.

“It’s been a privilege serving our community for the previous 11 years & I’d be honored to continue serving as your district attorney to work with our law enforcement to help keep our community safe,” Toney posted to X, formerly known as Twitter on Thursday.

Toney received his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from St. Norbert College in 2006 and a law degree from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2009.

Toney was recently named an unsung hero by the Wisconsin Law Journal and received a legal All Star Award.

As previously reported, Toney is a career prosecutor, with a passion for seeking justice while making Wisconsin a safer place to live, work and play.

With more than a decade of experience in the District Attorney’s office, Toney has won more than 50 trials, putting some of Wisconsin’s most dangerous criminals behind bars. He was also instrumental in ending a constitutional crisis in the Badger State due to underpaid public defenders and district attorneys that resulted in staffing shortages and court backlogs.

He comes from a family heavily devoted to public service, as his father (now retired) worked in Wisconsin local law enforcement.

When Toney isn’t in a courtroom, you’ll find him volunteering on the board of several organizations, including as his role as president of the Wisconsin District Attorney’s Association and in teen court diversionary programs.

In Toney’s capacity of president of the District Attorney’s association, he’s worked tenaciously with elected officials across both political aisles to help resolve Wisconsin’s constitutional crisis.

Incumbent Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul defeated Eric Toney in the general election for Attorney General of Wisconsin on November 8, 2022.
