Milwaukee County Courthouse Navigator program launches

Officials gathered in Milwaukee Wednesday to announce the launch of The Milwaukee County Courthouse Navigator Program. The program is operated through a newly established AmeriCorps partnership administered by the Milwaukee Justice Center.

The program will assign AmeriCorps Staff Members to physically accompany pro-se litigants as they navigate the filing process of court documents.

Additionally, the program will staff an accessible information desk on the G level of the courthouse.

“Access to justice matters,” said Milwaukee County Clerk of Court Maria Hodges. Hodges office provides administrative oversight and support to the Milwaukee County Justice Center.

“Everyone who visits the Milwaukee County Courthouse deserves ready access and services they need,” said Mary Ferwerds, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Justice Center.

AmeriCorps members will gain practical experience and develop leadership skills through offering legal services to the community. Members can receive knowledge for future career prospects, collaborate with legal professionals, and make a meaningful impact in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Justice Center website states.
