There may still be 161 days before Christmas, but the largest city in the Midwest is looking into changing rules shifting responsibility for clearing snow from sidewalks during Winter months, as a Chicago sidewalk snowplow ordinance moves forward, reported The Chicago Tribune.
Under the proposal, which advanced Friday, a working group will recommend guidelines for a sidewalk plowing pilot program, which will then be subject to City Council approval, Tribune reported.
Under current Chicago rules, clearing sidewalks when they are snowy or icy is the responsibility of property owners. The ordinance is set to go before the City Council Wednesday.
In Milwaukee, the city is only responsible for clearing public sidewalks.
