Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signature on Assembly Bill 245, which effectively eliminates Wisconsin’s personal property tax, received praise from newly elected Republican Wisconsin Senator Dan Knodl.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Knodl wrote, “Today, Governor Evers signed into law Assembly Bill 245 … I can confidently say that this legislation will benefit the entire state of Wisconsin for years to come with a record investment in our emergency services, public safety, and local roads.”

“With this legislation signed into law, the personal property tax has been finally eliminated. I have been working towards this moment throughout my time in the legislature and it is such a relief knowing this tax will no longer burden our small business owners,” Knodl added.

In Knodl’s post he also noted that the bill will help fund local governments services, gives and provide Milwaukee officials with much needed tools to fix its pension program.

The measure, introduced May 3, had a number of sponsors, including: Representatives Kurtz, Rodriguez, Vos, August, Born, Armstrong, Behnke, Binsfeld, Callahan, Dallman, Dittrich, Donovan, Duchow, Edming, Green, Gundrum, Gustafson, Hurd, Katsma, Kitchens, Knodl, Krug, Magnafici, Maxey, Michalski, Moses, Murphy, Mursau, Nedweski, O’Connor, Oldenburg, Penterman, Petersen, Petryk, Plumer, Pronschinske, Rozar, Sapik, Schmidt, Schraa, Snyder, Sortwell, Spiros, and Steffen. Summerfield, Swearingen, Tusler, Zimmerman and Wittke,

It was cosponsored by Senators Felzkowski, Cabral-Guevara, James and Quinn, and referred to Committee on Local Government.

As previously reported by the Wisconsin Law Journal, Knodl faced Democrat Jodi Habush Sinykin in a close race for the Wisconsin’s 8th Senate District swing seat in a special election. Alberta Darling’s departure created the open Senate seat. Knodl’s win in April has allowed Republicans to control the Wisconsin Senate.
