SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) — The family of a woman who died outside a Sun Prairie assisted living center in December is suing the center.
WMTV-TV reports that the family of 84-year-old Alice McGraw filed the wrongful death complaint against Faith Gardens Memory Care. It says McGraw left the facility during the overnight hours without her walker. She was wearing pajamas and socks. Authorities say she likely died from hypothermia.
The family says workers at the facility had a habit of propping open the front door to disarm the second alarm door and McGraw was able to get out due to the lack of attentive staff.
Faith Gardens Memory Care owner Rachel Baehr says the facility is working with the state Department of Health Services to correct problems and ensure security at the center.
