Foley promotes three attorneys

Foley & Lardner recently announced that three attorneys at the firm have been elected to partnership.

The firm promoted Brett Belden, Casey Fleming and Kevin Malaney, effective Feb. 1.

Belden, who earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2008, is an intellectual property lawyer.

Fleming, who graduated from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2005, focuses her practice on employee benefits and executive compensation.

Malaney is also an intellectual property lawyer. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2007.

Trial lawyers group gives props to DeWitt litigators

The National Trial Lawyers Association has included two litigators from DeWitt Ross & Stevens on its list of top Wisconsin trial lawyers.

The firm recently announced that Howard Schoenfield and David Schwartz were included in the association’s Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Wisconsin.

Schoenfeld has been practicing for more than 30 years in both state and federal courts. He represents individuals, companies, lawyers and municipalities in matters ranging from civil rights issues to building defects. He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1971.

Schwartz has more than 30 years of experience and specializes in personal injury, medical negligence, workers’ compensation and general civil litigation. He earned his law degree in 1978 from the University of South Dakota School of Law.

Membership in The National Trial Lawyers Association is by invitation only. Schoenfeld has been a member for 12 years; Schwartz for five.

DeWitt Ross & Stevens recently announced that two new associates have joined the firm.

Erin Block, who earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2015, works out of the firm’s Metro Milwaukee office and is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group.

The firm also hired Eric Hansch, who earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2014, works out of the firm’s Madison office and is a member of the firm’s Business Practice Group.  His practice focuses on all aspects of corporate and real estate law.

Partner, two associates join Quarles & Brady

Quarles & Brady recently hired a new partner and two associates.

The firm announced that Meghan O’Connor has joined the Milwaukee office as a partner in the Health Law Practice Group.

O’Connor’s practice focuses on areas such as data privacy and security, data breaches and health information technology.

The firm also hired two associates: Sarah Erdmann and Elizabeth Wamboldt.

Erdmann, who earned her law degree in 2015 from Marquette University Law School, is a member of the firm’s Health Law Practice Group. Her work focuses on data privacy and security, regulatory compliance, transactional, and general corporate matters within the health care sector.

Wamboldt, who earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2009, joined as part of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice focuses on negotiating and drafting commercial software licensing contracts and IT professional service agreements, as well as data privacy and security.

Business group recognizes Milwaukee firm

Hupy and Abraham was recently recognized by the National Association for Business Resources.

The firm was featured on the association’s list, Milwaukee’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, and will be honored at a ceremony March 2 in Milwaukee.

Godfrey & Kahn adds to technology law practice

Milwaukee-based Godfrey & Kahn has hired a new shareholder to its technology law team.

The firm announced last month that it had hired Andrew Schlidt III in its Milwaukee office. He is part of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group and leads the firm’s Technology Law Team.

Schlidt, who earned his law degree in 1995 from Marquette University Law School, has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on matters related to technology law.

Before joining Godfrey & Kahn, Schlidt worked in Husch Blackwell’s Milwaukee office.

Milwaukee firm gets props from Shepherd Express

An alternative weekly newspaper has named Milwaukee-based Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown as one of the top business and estate planning firms.

The firm recently announced that it had won the Shepherd Express’ yearly “Best of Milwaukee” contest in two categories: “Lawyer-Business” and “Lawyer-Estate Planning.”

The contest, which started in the 1990s, ranks Milwaukee businesses, restaurants and public officials based on reader votes.

Madison attorney to lead DeWitt labor team

DeWitt Ross & Stevens recently announced that one of its shareholders will lead its labor and employment relations team.

The firm named John Gardner, who works out of the firm’s Madison office, the chairperson of its Labor & Employment Relations Group. He succeeds Scott Paler, a shareholder who led the group since 2014.

Gardner, who earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2004, handles labor and management issues, and has defended employers in state and federal courts in employment disputes.

Milwaukee labor, employment firm promotes attorney

Milwaukee-based Lindner & Marsack has promoted one of its attorneys.

The labor and employment firm announced last month that Sally Piefer had been promoted to equity partner.

Piefer has been with the firm since 2016 and practices with a special focus on employment litigation, employment litigation, employment counseling and compliance, and employee or supervisor training.

Before joining Lindner & Marsack, Piefer, who earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2004, led the employment team of a small Waukesha-area firm for 17 years.

Milwaukee firm promotes attorney to shareholder

O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong & Laing recently announced that it has elected attorney Jason Scoby to shareholder.

Scoby, who earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2009, has worked for the firm since 2009 and is part of the firm’s Business Practice Group and Banking & Creditors’ Rights Practice Group. He represents individuals, businesses and banks in business and banking matters.

Reinhart hires trusts and estates associate

A new lawyer has joined the Milwaukee office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren

The firm recently announced that it had hired Kelsey Bailey as an associate in its trusts and estates practice.

Before joining the firm, Bailey was a staff attorney at Centro Legal, which provides free and low-cost legal services to people and families in Milwaukee County. During law school, she was a law clerk for Reinhart’s Trusts and Estates Practice and a law clerk at another Milwaukee-area firm, where she worked on probate matters.

Bailey earned her degree from Marquette University Law School in 2015.

DeWitt attorney to teach at UW Law School

A DeWitt Ross & Stevens attorney was recently appointed to be a law professor.

Donald Bach will be teaching Introduction to American Law to international law students at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Bach is a government relations, litigation and environmental attorney at the firm and has been practicing for more than 40 years.

Bach, who earned his degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1974, recently participated as a faculty member teaching a group of 19 visiting judges from Shanghai, China, as part of the law school’s East Asian Legal Studies program.
