It’s not easy maintaining one of the most efficient court calendars in the state.

It’s something that Sara Hullermann, judicial assistant for Judge Robert VanDeHey of Grant County Circuit Court Branch 1, takes particular pride in.

“We try to keep work moving as fast as we can,” Hullermann said.

That includes scheduling meetings and other business in a way that makes the most sense for both the attorneys handling a case and to the general court calendar.

“We schedule hearings to keep things flowing as efficiently as we can,” Hullermann said, adding that she also tries to keep transactions convenient for all parties.

Hullermann has been working in the field for more than a decade.

She started her first law-related job in September 2003 when she joined a law office as a receptionist. Eventually, Hullermann moved up to legal assistant.

After switching law firms, Hullermann was appointed to her current position in Grant County Circuit Court in July 2013.

Her work duties expanded again at the district court. She went from initially doing receptionist work to taking dictations and drafting correspondence.

Hullermann said she is just one part of a “great group” of people working in Grant County. She emphasized the importance of teamwork in keeping everything organized and running efficiently.

One of the most rewarding parts of her job, she said, is being able to help the public when they come into the office without legal representation. She said that the office helps keep cases moving by getting them on the calendar as quickly as possible.
