MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 50-year-old man who’s already in prison in connection with a 2001 sexual assault and killing is now charged in the death of a another woman whose body was found more than two decades ago.

Melvin Lee Jones is charged with intentional homicide. Prosecutors say he killed 24-year-old Ophelia Preston, whose body was found in a garbage cart in 1994.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Jones was identified as a suspect through DNA analysis. According to the criminal complaint, he admitted to raping Preston.

Jones is serving a 30-year prison sentence in connection with the sexual assault and strangling of Alfreda Hicks in 2001. He is appealing his conviction in that case.

Court records don’t list a defense attorney in the new case to comment on Jones’ behalf.
