MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Madison man accused of trading child pornography with others will spend eight years in federal prison.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports 26-year-old Evan Schmidt was also ordered to spend 10 years on supervised release following his prison time.
During the hearing Wednesday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger said most disturbing was an exchange Schmidt had with a California man in which Schmidt said he would “love to see” the man sexually assault a 2-year-old girl.
Pfluger says Schmidt got his wish, and the man was later arrested and prosecuted.
Schmidt’s lawyer, Marcus Berghahn, said Schmidt has received extensive sex offender treatment that made him far less likely to repeat his actions.
U.S. District Judge James Peterson said he was concerned about the risk that Schmidt would re-offend.
