ACLU withdraws gay marriage lawsuit

Listen to this articleMADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorneys who filed a lawsuit seeking legal recognition of hundreds of same-sex marriages performed in June in Wisconsin have dismissed their lawsuit after the state said the marriages would be recognized.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin announced the action Thursday.
There had been questions over whether the marriages performed during a week when the gay marriage ban was blocked only temporarily would be recognized as valid.
But the state said in October the marriages were valid after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of the ruling declaring Wisconsin’s same-sex marriage ban as unconstitutional.
About 550 same-sex couples were married during the week in June when the ban was first in doubt.
