Longtime Waukesha County Circuit Judge J. Mac Davis said Thursday that he will retire when his term ends in August 2015.
Davis, 62, has been on the bench since 1990. He said he announced now because others will need time to prepare to run for his seat in April.
“I don’t think I’d want to be re-elected until I’m almost 70,” Davis said. “It’s time, that’s all. It’s nothing special. I like what I’m doing.”
Davis said that he wants to work as a reserve judge and mediator after retiring. He also plans to spend time traveling to visit family, many of which live on the East Coast.
Prior to being a judge, Davis was a general practitioner. He also served as a Republican state senator from 1983 to 1990. Follow @eheisigWLJ
