Wisconsin Electric Power Co. will pay $50,000 in forfeitures and penalties for air pollution violations from a plant in Kenosha County, according to a news release from the state Attorney General’s office.

The Milwaukee-based company replaced two gaseous fuel fired combustion turbines in 2002 at its plant in Paris, Wis. While they emitted fewer pollutants than the old ones, the new turbines still were not in compliance with Wisconsin laws at the time they were built.

When the Department of Natural Resources tested the turbines in June 2012, they emitted too much nitrogen oxide, according to the Attorney General’s office.

The Attorney General’s office filed its complaint May 13. Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder approved the judgment Monday.

According to the Attorney General’s office, the plant now is in compliance with the state’s air pollution laws.
