WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A Lake County, Ill., judge has denied a request by a Waukegan woman accused of killing a 3-month-old child to leave jail to visit her dying father in Milwaukee.
However, Judge Victoria Rossetti said Friday she will allow 33-year-old Sarah Gumm to make voice and video connections with her father over the Internet.
The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights reports defense attorney Jed Stone asked that Gumm’s $3 million bond be reduced to $100,000 to allow her to visit her father in a Milwaukee hospital. Prosecutors opposed the request.
Gumm has pleaded innocent to first-degree murder in the August 2012 death of Rylan Aislee Koopmeiners of Kenosha, Wis. An autopsy determined the infant died of blunt force trauma.
Stone scheduled Gumm’s trial for June 16.
