Teacher sent to prison for assaulting student

Listen to this articleFOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — A former Mayville High School Spanish teacher will go to prison for having a sexual relationship with a student.
Fond du Lac County Judge Dale English went beyond the prosecution’s sentencing recommendation and sent 44-year-old Shannon Cardinal to prison for two years. English told Cardinal the breach of trust by the teacher was significant.
Cardinal was convicted of six incidents of sexual assault and texting naked photos to the male student. A Fond du Lac County prosecutor recommended one year in jail. WLUK-TV reports the defense argued for a month in jail and probation.
Cardinal offered a tearful apology before sentencing Wednesday. Cardinal will serve a year of extended supervision following her prison sentence.
