MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison has dropped its lawsuit against Adidas over alleged missed severance payments to factory workers in Indonesia.
The move was expected. Adidas is the apparel company that outfits the Badgers’ athletes and coaches.
According to Adidas, it reached an agreement in April that will provide “additional aid” to the workers. Details of the agreement are confidential.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports the university earlier expressed support for the agreement and has now dropped the legal case it filed last July against Adidas.
The lawsuit alleged that Adidas must pay Indonesian workers up to $2 million in back wages and benefits and honor a code-of-conduct provision in its contract.
UW-Madison interim chancellor David Ward said Monday that the primary goals of the suit had been achieved.
